‘Co-seating’ delves into the intricate interplay between individuality and collective experience within the framework of social structures and cultural identities. It utilises the historical backdrop of 195 Peral’s Hill in Singapore’s Chinatown, transforming the site's rich history — once a police barracks and government offices, now a vibrant creative hub — into a contemporary exploration of cultural layering.

The installation repurposes existing materials, including deadstock kids’ wear, a used wedding dress and used curtains, to create a frill beanbag and accompanying quilt and pillow. By physically engaging with the artwork, viewers are encouraged to contemplate their place within singular and plural identities, recognising how community participation shapes but does not erase individual uniqueness.

The project mobilises transformations of the artwork from diverse sources, including improvisational performances and fashion stunt movement with Fashion Revolution. These influences and memories echo throughout the installation, highlighting the dynamic evolution of cultural narratives and personal memories embedded within urban landscapes.

Overall, the installation poignantly reflects on the coexistence of individuality and collectivity, inviting viewers to explore how historical contexts and contemporary creativity intersect to shape our understanding of identity and community.
