Pillar Corset, 2024
Supper House Residency: Nothing but a Daydream
In the ethereal realm of creative expression, I find myself entwined in a daydream, envisaging crafting a corset for the silent sentinels that stand as pillars. A paradox unfolds as these architectural stalwarts, rigid in their rectangular form, defy the very essence of a corset - a garment designed to accentuate curves. This juxtaposition, though whimsical, unfurls a profound introspection into our societal stance on body shapes.
As a fashion artisan, my creations transcend mere garments; they are a meditation on shapes and silhouettes. Even within the simplicity of basic styles, the slightest deviation in pattern unveils a tapestry of professionalism and creativity.
The resonance of my artistic journey echoes within the empty expanse of the residency space, where pillars stand sentinel. Their emptiness, a canvas for stability and security, mirrors the core of the human form. Clothing, like armour for the core, extends its embrace to the limbs, initiating the dance of protection.
The torso emerges as the fount of energy, akin to the revered chakras of Buddhism. It is not merely a physical entity but a medium through which desires manifest. Responding to the current site, I abandon the familiar in favour of a visual and material dialogue with the pillars. To do something new is to embark on a creative odyssey, where each stitch and fabric choice narrates a story of innovation and departure from convention.
