The mention of the reversible tote bag brings attention to the issue of greenwashing in the fashion industry. Greenwashing is when brands market their products as environmentally friendly without genuinely adhering to sustainable practices. The term "environmentally friendly bag" refers to the reversible bags in China, and the subsequent overproduction of such bags due to inadequate knowledge highlights the importance of informed consumer choices and responsible production.

As Singapore started to charge on plastic bags in major supermarkets, a potential increase in tote bag production as a marketing tool for brands is an interesting observation. While tote bags are often seen as a sustainable alternative to plastic bags, it's crucial to consider their entire life cycle, including production and usage. Many studies based on LCA analysis indicate that cotton totes have the worst environmental impact among all types of bags. Switching to reusable bags is not a panacea for environmental issues; it requires thoughtful consideration of how these products are made, used, and disposed of.
